Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Founder & CEO

Dr. Naveed Akhtar is a pioneering leader in hydrogen energy, electrolyser and fuel cell technology, with over 25 years of experience driving innovation in the sector. As the founder and CEO of Hydrogen Aviation Limited, he is at the forefront of zero-emission mobility, green hydrogen production, fuel cell development, and hydrogen aviation projects.

A Chartered Engineer in the UK, Dr. Akhtar has worked with four of the six major types of fuel cells (PEMFC, AFC, DMFC, and SOFC) across Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK. During his tenure in Pakistan, he spearheaded the country’s first-ever Metal Hydride Hydrogen Storage Project (2001–2004) and established Pakistan’s first dedicated Hydrogen Energy Laboratory at NED University, Karachi.

He has led transformative initiatives, including green hydrogen & e-fuel projects at NEOM, Saudi Arabia, and served as Chief of Technology - Hydrogen at Oracle Power, UK, Vice President of Technology at Kraftwerk GmbH, Germany and as Chief Scientist at AFC Energy, UK. In 2020, he launched the world’s first international Hydrogen Aviation Conference (IHAC), creating a global platform for collaboration and innovation in sustainable aviation.

Mentored by the late Professor T. Nejat Veziroğlu, founding President of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy, Dr. Akhtar has authored over 30 papers in scientific journals and holds 11 patents in fuel cell technology. He holds a multidisciplinary academic background with a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.Sc. in Renewable Energy from Germany, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK.
